A Word from Our Founder & President
Liebe Miller
At the age of 20, I was eager to embrace married life, envisioning a fairy-tale future. Fast forward six years, and the reality had set in far from my dreams—my “prince” was far from charming, and the nagging upper GI issues turned out to be my four-month pregnancy. When my son was seven months old, realizing I needed to change my life, I returned to the attorney I had consulted before my pregnancy revelation, filed for divorce, and served my husband. The clarity hit me; managing one child was feasible, but two, especially when the other was 35 years old, was overwhelming. We attempted reconciliation, but it was clear: we were who we were.
My then-husband took an aggressive turn, joining Fathers for Equal Rights, which escalated our divorce into an 18-month legal ordeal featuring 16 depositions (mostly his) and a grueling week-long jury trial. The outcome? After a mere 13-minute jury deliberation, I was granted full custody, increased child support, and greater visitation restrictions on him, alongside his obligation to cover more than half of my legal fees.
My initial hope was for amicable co-parenting, yet it wasn’t meant to be. Instead, I focused on my son and my career. For over four years, I lived frugally, saving diligently to launch my financial career. From the beginning, my role transcended that of a mere planner; I was a financial therapist, coach, and guide.
Certainly, obstacles were plentiful, both internal—like self-doubt and fear—and external, including unsupportive people, family dynamics, and financial burdens.
One of my most significant hurdles was overcoming the ingrained belief that, coming from a family without “REAL” money, financial success wasn’t meant for me. I stopped being my worst enemy, changing my narrative to cultivate positive behavior and a success-oriented mindset. Despite numerous mistakes—each a learning opportunity—I found great value in those lessons, which were crucial in shaping the professional I am today. Having experienced coaches myself, I understood the profound impact guided support can have on personal growth and achievement.
Over the past 38 years, my practice has evolved into A Nu Beginning, an entity founded specifically to support individuals navigating life’s most challenging periods: aging, divorce, and widowhood.
What drives me is the opportunity to share and analyze—to facilitate these difficult transitions so that for others, they might be as smooth as possible and lead to new beginnings.
What I’ve learned through my journey:
- You don’t know what you don’t know.
- The definition of insanity
- Doing what you love will rarely feel like work.
- To believe in your dreams, hold the vision, and take action.
- And the universe WILL take care of everything else.
At A Nu Beginning, we maintain a “pay it forward” mentality, essential for those who earnestly seek assistance during pivotal life moments. My motivation lies in using my knowledge and experience to help others through their strenuous journeys, ensuring they, too, can transition smoothly into a new beginning.
